What you need
- The lyophilised vial
- Bacteriostatic water
- A sterile syringe
- An alcohol wipe
Method
The standard steps
- 1Let the vial reach room temperature. Cold glass collects condensation.
- 2Wipe both stoppers with alcohol. Let them dry.
- 3Draw the water volume you calculated.
- 4Point the needle at the glass wall. Let the water run down the side.
- 5Do not aim the stream at the powder. A direct stream damages the peptide.
- 6Swirl the vial gently until the powder dissolves.
- 7Do not shake the vial. A shake damages the peptide chain.
- 8Label the vial with the date and the concentration.
- 9Store the solution in a refrigerator.
Watch out
Four errors that spoil a sample
- You shake the vial. Shear force damages the peptide chain.
- You use tap water or plain sterile water for a multi-use vial. Bacteriostatic water contains benzyl alcohol, which limits microbial growth.
- You leave the solution at room temperature.
- You write no date on the vial and you lose track of the age.
