Pinealon is a synthetic tripeptide. The sequence is Glu-Asp-Arg (EDR). It belongs to the Khavinson "cytogen" or bioregulator class.
Name warning. The name suggests a pineal origin. Researchers did not isolate it from pineal tissue.
02Mechanism: How It Works
The proposal describes a cell-penetrating peptide that binds DNA in a sequence-specific way and modulates gene expression.
Reports describe neuroprotection and an increase in antioxidant defense, with SOD2 and GPX1 as named targets.
Status of the mechanism. It is hypothesis-driven. Independent work does not validate it.

Khavinson et al. (2012) showed neuroprotection in models of prenatal hyperhomocysteinemia and oxidative stress. A further study showed effects on cortical neurons.
